---- — two in three days

Astros DH Carlos Pena of Haverhill belted a three-run homer on Tuesday, then a walk-off three-run clout on Thursday in the 10th inning against the Brewers. They were his seventh and eighth roundtrippers of the year. He’s batting .219 with 36 runs and 24 RBIs.

furey at nationals

Methuen Olympian Sean Furey hasn’t gotten off a big javelin throw yet this season, with a best of 240-0. He hopes to changed that today (2 p.m. start) at the National Championships in Des Moines.

Cakes are baking

UTL birthday wishes go out to Lawrence basketball standout Tre’von Farley (turns 19 on Thursday), UMass hockey goalie Steve Mastalerz of North Andover (turns 21 on Saturday), BC tight end Brian Miller of Andover (turns 20 on Saturday) and Greater Lawrence Tech 1,000-point scorer Shabeli Villa (turns 19 on Saturday).

Rosinski stars

Pinkerton’s talented 6-7 freshman Luke Rosinski made the all-tourney team at the U15/Freshman Gymrats Challenge in Albany. He was described in the all-star write-up as “Very mobile for his size, and he uses his mobility and size to be an effective finisher around the hoop. Blocks and/or alters a lot of shots.”

unsung hero

Year-round runner Evelin Reyes, who’ll be studying nursing at Salem State, earned 12 letters at Lawrence.

“She improved her mile time by over seven minutes since her freshman year and never misses a practice. Evelin defines what high school athletics are all about,” said coach Anthony Ellis of Lawrence’s student-athlete of the year.

I read somewhere that Charlie Hall, a 6-foot-3 sophomore at Crossroads High in Santa Monica, Calif., is an intriguing young basketball player. His mother is 5-2.5 Julia Louis-Dreyfus of Seinfield fame. He gets his height from his lanky father, Brad Hall, formerly of Saturday Night Live.

Ramirez No. 1

Always love to get track updates out of nowhere. Methuen coach Roger Fuller was going through some old records and discovered Methuen Hall of Famer Dave Ramirez ran a 53.68 in the 400 hurdles at the Loucks Games in 1985, which is easily the best in area history. Runner-up is Central’s Alex Dehullu, who ran 56.03 this spring.

Bizzarro world

Add to the All-Name team North Carolina outfielder Skye Bolt and Gennaro Bizzarro, who is perfectly named for his profession ... NBA player agent.

7th-grade scholarship

It’s unusual but not unheard of that sophomore QB De’Andre Johnson of Jacksonville already has committed to Florida State. What’s eye-popping is his 7th grade brother Tyreke Johnson has offers from Vanderbilt and Fla. Atlantic.
