The Final Score: Offense denied

The Final Score

Offense denied

Andover boys soccer had the brunt of the offensive opportunities but Chelmsford’s goalie was superlative in a scoreless draw. Midfielder An Huynh was a strong playmaker for the Warriors and Ray Forster, who played midfield and forward last night, had most of Andover’s scoring chances in second half.

...

Impressive defensive play from Todd Patnaude, John Enright, Jeff Warden and captain Connor Boudreau stood out in North Andover’s scoreless soccer tie with Dracut. Now at 8-1-2, the Knights qualified for state tourney play with the deadlock, a result so rare that 22-year veteran head coach Bill Tarbox couldn’t remember the last time it happened on his watch.

Another impressive win

“Huge win for us,” Haverhill girls soccer coach Fred Tarbox said after his team won 2-0 over Lowell yesterday. Marlayna Buco stopped seven shots while Basema Hussein and Abby Nauffts each scored for Haverhill.

Astros finish close

With five of the top seven finishers, Pinkerton closed out its regular cross country season strong with a sweep of host Exeter, Keene and Spaulding. Ariel Vailancourt was runner-up overall for the Astros, whose scorers all finished within 35 seconds of each other.

Back-to-back victories

After winning a quad meet last week, Windham rode three personal-best times to a cross country victory over ConVal yesterday. Alex Brissette, Doug DeLuca and Peter Caron all posted their best 5K times to finish 2-3-4 behind teammate and victor Brandon Bielinski.

Craig’s a stopper

A successful penalty kick with four minutes left undid a strong Pentucket second-half comeback, allowing host Rockport to escape with a 2-2 draw in soccer. Senior center back Ben Craig, “the best defender in the CAL” in head coach Christian Langlois’ opinion, continued his stellar play yesterday. “If not for him, we’d be giving up more goals than we have,” Langlois said.

Center-back scores again

After scoring his first goal Saturday, center-back Matt Carbonello now has netted two in two games, as he also recorded one yesterday in Windham’s 7-0 rout over Merrimack Valley in boys soccer.
