What a Knight for Oswald

Rushes for record 402 yards in 56-28 win

(Continued)

Oswald is in a long line of great North Andover running backs, particularly in the last decade. One common bond among a few of them is they didn’t get to be “The Man” until their senior seasons.

Last year it was John Iannone. The year before it was Jack Murphy.

“John (Iannone) told me to keep working hard and take advantage of the few carries you get as a junior,” said Oswald. “Watching him, I realized this would be my year if I worked hard. And I did.”

Defense an issue

After waxing poetic about Oswald’s performance last night, coach Rafferty shook his head when the topic of his defense came up. Last night, Dracut amassed 464 yards of offense in scoring 28 points, including 21 points by halftime. Last week, the Knights defense was torched early and often by Tewksbury in the 49-42 loss, which may have cost his team a shot at the post-season.

“It’s a problem that we better fix quickly with Haverhill coming up next week and Masconomet on Thanksgiving,” said Rafferty. “A lot of it mental, lack of concentration. We have guys in position, but we’re not making tackles. Honestly, it’s disheartening, but I think we will improve. Trust me, we will work on our defense a lot this week.”
