NORTON — Andover junior Brett Krekorian shot a sizzling 35 on the back nine yesterday at Norton Country Club to give him an 18-hole total of 79, lifting him to a tie for eighth at the Division 1 state meet.
Krekorian was the top local golfer as MVC champ Tyler Nelson, who shot a 72 at the Division 1 North tournament, had a rare off day and soared to an 88. Haverhill’s Scott Farley also wasn’t at his best, shooting a 95.
B.C. High captured the team championship with a 315, winning a tiebreaker with St. John’s of Shrewsbury. St. John’s Prep was three shots off the pace in third at 318.
St. John’s, which was second last year and first in 2010, got excellent rounds from freshmen Steve Dillisio (76) and James Turner (78) but the Eagles’ seniors had off days, costing them a possible title.
The only local team, Central Catholic, finished eighth overall, led by Mark Mancini and Ryan Mahoney, both of whom shot 82. Ryan Ajermian was two shots back at 84.
In the Division 2 meet at Beverly Country Club, which was won on a tiebreaker with Duxbury by Sandwich with a score of 309, North Andover’s Alec Brown shot an 81 in the individual scoring.
Defending champion Masconomet finished third in Division 2 with a 311, but Charlie May was the winner for the second straight year, firing an even-par 70. In Division 3, Westwood was the team champion. Newburyport’s Brendan Crowther was the fourth individual, shooting a 77.
