The final score

Holding on

The Andover girls hockey team scored twice in the second period, on goals by Veronica Alois and Mikayla Panneton, and then held on for a 2-1 Division 1 North victory over Winthrop. Goalie Mackenzie Dutton had 28 saves.

Season high

Kristin Hogan had a season-high seven 3-pointers and 27 points to pace Georgetown past Matignon 55-33 in the opening round of the Division 4 tournament.

Tourney milestone

The Methuen-Tewksbury girls hockey team keeps reaching milestones in its first year. After making the tournament, Methuen won its first postseason game yesterday, blasting Norwell 10-3. Amanda Conway continued her scoring spree with four goals while seventh grader Kelly Golini had three goals and two assists. Methuen plays again tomorrow at Canton at 4:30.

Merrimack lax: No. 4

The Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the most recent USILA Division II Coaches Poll after the number one team in the country, Dowling, was defeated by Limestone over the weekend. Merrimack will open its season March 9 when it travels to take on No. 3 Limestone in Baltimore.

Senior Corey Lunney, meanwhile, has been named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award watch list. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlights the early contenders for the 2013 Tewaaraton Award. The two-time NEILA Player of the Year returns for his senior season after leading the Northeast-10 Conference with 45 goals last season.
