Londonderry hockey may be team to beat

Surging Londonderry could be the team to beat in the Division 1 hockey tournament, which gets underway with two first-round games tomorrow.

The Lancers (13-4-1) may only be the No. 3 seed, but they’ve won their last six games and they defeated both top-seed Manchester Memorial (5-4) and No. 2 seed Manchester Central (4-2) during the regular season. Eric Colburn, with 18 goals, leads a balanced attack for the Lancers.

Londonderry, however, will open Saturday at 4 p.m. against No. 6 Salem (10-6-2), which defeated it twice during the regular season. But the Blue Devils, who are led by Cody Soucy’s 21 goals, have struggled of late, losing five of their last eight games.

No. 7 Pinkerton (10-8), which is led by the Corsetto brothers (Dominic and Gio) will open tomorrow against Concord. The Astros have won six of their last nine games.

In Division 2, Windham-Pelham (9-7-1) is seeded ninth and opens tomorrow at No. 8 Goffstown. Merrimack (16-2) and Spaulding (15-2-1) are the top two seeds.
