GREAT JOB MAX!

Phillips Exeter topped Choate, 58-47, in the New England Prep Class A Boys Championship game yesterday to claim the title.

Freshman guard @text5:Max Kirsch@text5: of Atkinson is the only local athlete on the squad. Kirsch started as a 9th-grader at Timberlane Regional before reclassifying and transferring to Exeter.

@Sports Minute head color 2 decks:THE HARD ROAD TO A TITLE

Brooks beat #1 seeded Kent’s Hill to win the New England Piatelli-Simmons Tournament Championship today. It is the first New England Championship in the history of Brooks boys hockey.

Brooks skated with its back to the wall, basically the last three weeks, needing to win its last three games to take the ISL Eberhart title.

Seeded third in the New Englands, Brooks knocked off Middlesex, then Tilton — 2-1 with goals from @text5:Ian Speliotis and K.J. Moore@text5:. In the final, Brooks topped Kents Hill, 4-1.

Colin Langham @text5:backboned the team in net, right three the stretch drive.

BRADY WILL NEVER PLAY FOR $9 MILLION

As the guy who got crushed in these parts for proposing that there might be a deal good enough out there to move @text5:Tom Brady@text5:, I was not surprised that the Pats extended him for a very minimal cost.

First off, I’m not buying this Brady playing till he’s 40 thing. The extension, in my eyes, is simply a team move to hack money off the salary cap.

It is Brady’s quest to keep Wes Welker here. And he’s making it easier on paper for the club.

If you think Brady will ever take a snap at $9 million per year, you are clearly mistaken.

BAMBI BEHIND DISH

It hasn’t taken long for @text5:Brandon “Bambi” Walsh@text5: to make his impact behind the plate at UMass. The freshman from North Andover has earned the starting catcher spot for the Minutemen and has played all three games for 1-2 UMass thus far. He had a pair of hits in the season opener vs. Notre Dame.

WE’RE TALKING BASEBALL

Folks in and around Sachem country looking to prep for the spring season, remember Pentucket Regional coach @text5:Tom L’Italien@text5: and his streamlined, after-school Baseball camp coming right up. The 10th annual Pre-Season Sachem Baseball School will be held at Pentucket Regional High School during the week of March 11-16. There will be one session, which runs 4-6 p.m. all week for players grades 1-9. For more information or for a brochure please call head coach Tom L’Italien at (978) 265-6128 or e-mail at TLCAMPS@ME.com.
