Andrew’s grandfathers are former Andover baseball coach @text5:Bill Vickers@text5: and former Salem football coach @text5:Jack Gati@text5:.

Brittany Gorski @text5:now holds seven Holy Cross track records between indoor and outdoor track and relays. The senior from Tewksbury and Central Catholic established the new 800 mark of 2:10.65 in winning New Englands. She also led the Crusaders to a second in the 4x800.
She followed that up with a fourth at ECACs in 2:10.99. Her former Central teammate, HC sophomore @text5:Mackenzie Arndt@text5: of Merrimac, was second at New Englands and then pole vaulted a school record 12-7 1/2 for third at ECACs.
Hillie connection
Other New Englands placers were: UNH senior @text5:Keely Maguire@text5: of Georgetown (2nd mile, 4:45.25), Quinnipiac sophomore @text5:Rebecca Stabile@text5: of Haverhill (4th, 500, 1:14.53) and her former Haverhill teammate UMass freshman @text5:Mike McNaughton@text5: (7th, 1,000, 2:33.15).

Lawrence Academy senior basketball player @text5:Darrien Myers@text5: of North Andover helped hold up the team manager, @text5:Joey Mullaney@text5:, who then “dunked” to begin the game vs. BB&N. It was a special moment for Mullaney, who suffers from Freidreich’s ataxia, a rare neurological disorder.

Senior defenseman @text5:Brendan McCarron@text5: of Andover and Central Catholic was named to the six-player All-Northeast 10 hockey first team. McCarron, a second-teamer as a sophomore, had seven goals and nine assists in 25 games for Franklin Pierce.
No mercy
Ex-Central Catholic great @text5:Scott Hazelton’s@text5: wife, @text5:Julie Tardif Hazelton,@text5: and brother-in-law, @text5:Chris Tardif,@text5: are first-ballot Timberlane Hall of Famers. And their father, @text5:Bucky@text5:, was the AD there for 23 years. But that didn’t mean Hazelton’s Bishop Guertin girls basketball team would take it easy on the Owls.
They handed Timberlane one of the worst losses in school history, 85-26, in their state tourney opener.
New mexico shootout
Bryce Alford @text5:of La Cueva High in New Mexico outscored @text5:Cullen Neal@text5: of Eldorado 52-39 but Neal’s club won 89-79. Their fathers, ex-Indiana great @text5:Steve Alford @text5:and former Georgia Tech star @text5:Craig Neal@text5:, coach together at the University of New Mexico. Alford will play for the Lobos and Neal is headed to St. Mary’s.
Eyes of texas
America’s top young male diver, Amherst High senior @text5:Michael Hixon@text5:, has signed a scholarship to Texas. He’s the grandson of Hall of Fame Andover basketball coach @text5:Wil Hixon @text5:and the son of Andover Hall of Famer @text5:Dave Hixon@text5:, the Amherst College basketball coach.
