Whittier wins showdown, title

Clinches CAC title

Whittier clinched its second straight Commonwealth Conference Large title with a 66-57 victory over Shawsheen. Andrea Terranova had a season-high 24 points and Michaela Martin had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats (16-3), who fell to Dracut Tuesday night.

“What a difference 24 hours makes,” said coach Kevin Bradley. “We played our worst game of the year against Dracut and probably our best tonight.”

The loss was only the second of the year for Shawsheen (15-2).

Regan nets winner

Central Catholic outshot Waltham 38-18 put had to work hard to pull out a 2-1 win. Corey Webber and Kevin Regan scored for the Raiders.

‘Huge’ victory

Amesbury-Whittier beat Newburyport for the first time since 2006, 5-3. Anthony Licciardello had two goals and an assist and Tabor Smith had three assists.

Picking his moment

Senior defenseman Steven Castaldo made his first goal of the season count, scoring early in the third for the deciding goal in Andover’s 4-3 win over Westford.

Jags beat No. 2 team

Bernadette Connors was giving up seven inches to 6-3 Portsmouth star Alicia Brown but she held her to three second-half points and Windham knocked off the second-place Clippers 59-55. Kelsey Schiebel scored 21 points including four free throws in the final minute. Brianna Angelini had a big steal and two free throws with 30 seconds left. Clairee Putnam led the Jags with 25 points.

High for Turco

Senior Amanda Turco had a career-high 21 points but it wasn’t enough as Sanborn fell to Prospect Mountain, 52-43.

Finding a way

Brooks hit just 2 of 21 3-pointers, but it held on to defeat Belmont Hill, 55-50. Jayde Dawson led Brooks with 19 points.

Career High

Jake Vaiknoras poured in a career-high 30 points to power Pelham to a 57-46 win over ConVal.

Tough effort

Matt Bauchman, Brandon Blum, T.J. Gannon, Ryan Bradley and Nick Yameen starred for Methuen, which lost a tough 4-3 decision to once-beaten Lincoln-Sudbury.
