Haverhill sprinter leads Merrimack

---- — Merrimack’s Noelia Figuereo of Haverhill won the 100 meters in 12.77 and finished fourth in the 400 in 60.38 at the Bridgewater State Invitational.

Briana Devereaux of Londonderry placed fifth in the 1,500 in 4:54.04.

For the men’s team, Ian Weaver placed second in the 400 in 51.43 and Luis Cruz of Lawrence placed fourth in the 800 in 2:02.18.

Behind five goals and two assists from senior captain Corey Lunney, the No. 7 Merrimack men’s lacrosse team defeated AIC 15-4. Mike Perdie added three goals.

Merrimack (2-1, 1-0 NE-10) will host No. 1 Le Moyne on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The softball team had a busy day, beating Kutztown 2-1, losing to Tufts 11-0 and finally beating Shippensburg 3-2.

Against Kutztown, Tawny Palmieri and Jaclyn Giovannini homered and Valerie Bauer of Salem notched the complete-game win.

In the nightcap, Giovanni’s two-run homer in the sixth gave the Warriors (3-7) the comeback win. Starter Alexis Perry reentered the game in relief in the seventh and pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam.

John Pastyrnak’s squeeze plated the go-ahead run and Joe Mantoni pitched two shutout innings of relief as the baseball team downed Assumption 6-5.
