WHAT A YEAR!
Windham junior shooting guard Clairee Putnam certainlyhad a tremendous season.
In 25 games, she averaged 18.2 points per game — up from 11.2 as a sophomore.
She shot 49 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line.
LOCAL STAR’S HOUSE BURNS
Syracuse star point guard Michael Carter-Williams’ family home in Hamilton caught fire and was destroyed while Carter-Williams and the Orange played (and won) an NCAA tournament against against California on Saturday night.
Some members of his family reportedly were watching the game at home when the fire began.
Carter-Williams tweeted, “Thanks for the prayers everyone all thats important to me is my family is okay.”
Carter-Williams’ mother is Amanda Carter-Zegarowski, the girls varsity basketball coach at Ipswich. His sister is Ipswich all-league point guard Masey Zegarowski.
Former Red Sox prospect Casey Kelly will undergo Tommy John surgery the first week of April.
Kelly was traded to the San Diego Padres along with Anthony Rizzo and Reymond Fuentes as part of the deal that brought Adrian Gonzalez to Boston before the 2011 season.
Baseball America ranked Kelly, a right-hander, the 45th best prospect in baseball entering this season.
That was just four spots ahead of Allen Webster, the talented righty the Red Sox received in the trade that sent Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
ORR’S UNBELIEVABLE RECORD
Bobby Orr holds the NHL record for the best plus/minus ranking in a single season with a plus-124 during the 1970-71 season.
That’s remarkable considering how no NHL player has recorded more than a plus-52 rating over the past 10 seasons.
Patrice Bergeron led the NHL with a plus-36 last year and Zdeno Chara led with a plus-33 the year before.
Jeff Schultz recorded a league-leading plus-50 rating in 2009-10 while David Krejci led the league with a plus-37 in 2008-09.
