Patriots re-sign CB Bodden

The New England Patriots have kept another free agent from leaving, re-signing cornerback Leigh Bodden to a four-year deal. Bodden's deal, which was announced by his agent on Twitter, comes on the same day the Patriots confirmed that they re-signed defensive lineman Vince Wilfork. Wilfork and his agent announced the deal on Saturday.

"We don't think there's a better player on the marketplace for this team" than Wilfork, Patriots owner Robert Kraft said . "We've been able to sign a number of our guys this year that we felt were No. 1 or 2 in the marketplace."

The team also announced that offensive lineman Stephen Neal would return. Last week, the team re-upped pass rusher Tully Banta-Cain, part of the team's offseason philosophy to bring back its own players rather than make splashy and expensive new acquisitions.

Pro football: Attorney says Roethlisberger is completely innocent of any crime

Police investigators and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said they will continue to look into allegations of sexual assault against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger is accused of sexual assault against a 20-year-old Georgia College & State University student that allegedly took place early Friday morning at the Capital City nightclub in downtown Milledgeville. No charges have been filed against Roethlisberger.

At a news conference in front of the Milledgeville police station, Police Chief Woodrow Blue told about two dozen media members that Roethlisberger's attorney, Ed Garland of Atlanta, had been in contact with investigators and was arranging for Roethlisberger to talk with them in the next "two or three days."

More pro football: Vick 'humbled' by Ed Block Courage Award

Inside the banquet hall, a humbled but defiant Michael Vick was honored as one of 32 NFL players to receive the Ed Block Courage Award.

Outside, dozens of protesters expressed dismay over his nomination.

The award is presented to players who exemplify commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage. Each NFL team selects their own recipient, and most of the winners were on hand for the gala event.

Vick was picked as the Philadelphia Eagles' representative by a unanimous vote of his teammates. Once a star quarterback with the Atlanta Falcons, Vick was convicted in 2007 for his role in a dogfighting ring and served 18 months in federal prison.

More pro football: Giants sign Sorgi as backup quarterback

The Giants got a second opinion on the guy who will be their second quarterback.

A day after the team's medical staff voiced concerns over Jim Sorgi's shoulder, the team signed the six-year veteran backup to a one-year deal. The Giants' doctors, who only examined Sorgi conferred with Dr. James Andrews, the noted orthopedist who has been treating Sorgi. Then they decided to greenlight the acquisition.

Sorgi, who spent his six seasons playing in only 16 games as the backup to Peyton Manning, will now be Eli Manning's backup. The Giants needed to add a second quarterback when David Carr, who held that job for the past two seasons, signed with the 49ers as a free agent. Sorgi will compete with second-year player Rhett Bomar for the backup job.

More pro football: Chiefs sign RB Jones

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent running back Thomas Jones, who led the New York Jets to the AFC championship game last season and was the NFL's third-leading rusher.

The Chiefs announced the deal but declined to disclose the terms.

Jones had career highs of 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. He was a 2008 Pro Bowl selection with 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Pro baseball: Former OF Davis found dead in his home

Willie Davis, a speedy center fielder who collected two World Series rings, three Gold Gloves and was a two-time All-Star during his 14 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has died. He was 69.

Davis was found dead in his Burbank home, police said, adding that they did not believe foul play was involved.

Pro hockey: Legal fallout continues from Coyotes bankruptcy

The nearly yearlong legal battle between the National Hockey League and former Phoenix Coyotes owner Jerry Moyes isn't over yet.

The NHL filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Moyes and his family on Friday, alleging that the trucking magnate violated a number of league agreements when he put the franchise in bankruptcy last year and then attempted to sell it to Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie.

College football: Pinstripe Bowl set for Yankee Stadium on Dec. 30

Yankees officials trotted out a naming sponsor, television partnership and specific date for a new college football bowl game that, had it existed last year, theoretically would have matched Rutgers — 3-4 in the Big East — against Texas A&M — 3-5 in the Big 12. The 35th game in the 2010-11 bowl season will be known as the Pinstripe Bowl, backed by the New Era sports apparel giant, telecast by ESPN and played Dec. 30 at Yankee Stadium.

More college football: Texas, Maryland get reprieve on recruiting rule

The NCAA has given Texas and Maryland a one-year reprieve from a new rule that limits off-campus football recruiting by a coach designated as the head coach-in-waiting. The decision allows Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin to participate in the critical spring evaluation period in April and May.
