BRAINTREE — As far as momentum shifts go, this was a doozy.
With Brooks holding a six-point lead, Thayer Academy marched to the goal line and — with just seconds to go before halftime — elected to go for it on fourth down from the 1-yard line.
But North Andover’s Andrew Konovalchik, Andover’s Nolan LeBlanc and Luke Hajdukiewicz combined to stuff the opposing ballcarrier and send the Green and White into the half with the lead.
Brooks then responded by scoring on their first two possessions of the second half to hold off pesky Thayer 22-14.
North Reading’s Chris Cervizzi opened the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown in the second quarter, then added a 1-yard plunge into the end zone to start the third. Konovalchik chipped in with the third TD, a 2-yard run, and rushed for both 2-point conversions.
