TWO GREAT CEREMONIES

The Red Sox unveiled a statue of Hall of Famer and Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski outside Fenway Park’s Gate B yesterday.

Meanwhile, the rival Yankees honored retiring legendary closer Mariano Rivera during a ceremony at Yankee Stadium.

Yaz is the all-time Red Sox leader in games played (3,308), at-bats (11,988), runs (1,816), hits (3,419), RBIs (1,844), doubles (646), intentional walks (190), sacrifice flies (105), total bases (5,539) and extra-base hits (1,157).

Mo is the all-time MLB leader with 652 saves and 951 games finished. He will be the final player ever to wear No. 42 because it is retired league-wide in honor of Jackie Robinson.

HUGE WIN FOR CENTRAL

Mary Lambert scored the game’s only goal and Sydney Thornhill was credited with a whopping 25 saves as Central Catholic field hockey blanked Andover 1-0 on Saturday.

It was the first time Central field hockey had ever beaten Andover.

Lambert’s goal, which came in the second half, was assisted by Krista Maloney.

DID YOU KNOW?

Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana’s son Nick Montana is the junior starting quarterback at Tulane University. He is 77 for 135 (57 percent) with eight touchdowns and three interceptions this year.

The Green Wave are 2-2 after getting routed by Syracuse 52-17 on Saturday.

ELLSBURY UPDATE

The hope is center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (fractured navicular bone in right foot) will return to the Red Sox lineup Wednesday in Colorado.

“Optimistically, from my end, hopefully he might be in the lineup on Wednesday,” manager John Farrell said. “The work that he’s going through right now — the baseball activities are starting to ramp up. There have been no setbacks obviously. So that’s an optimistic view but I would hope we’d be able to get him some at-bats on that day.”

Ellsbury added about a Wednesday return, “We talked about it as a possibility so, yeah, I’m definitely ahead of schedule. Possibility.”
