Historic Owl win
Timberlane swept defending state champion Salem, 3-0. Coach Sean Hogan says he believes it is the first time the Owls have ever beaten the Blue Devils. The Buckley sisters, Jessica and Jane, led the way along with Ginny Fagan.
Warriors win big
Azita Bakhtyari recorded 22 kills and added four aces as Andover volleyball swept Central Catholic 3-0.
North Andover improved to 70 by downing Methuen 3-1. Rachel Karpinski (12 kills), Catherine Flaherty (strong net play) and Erin Cox (31 assists) powered the Knights.
Lopez does it all
Freshman Pedro Lopez made 12 saves and also recorded an assist in Greater Lawrence’s 3-1 win over North Shore.
Andrew Lowman scored his seventh goal in eight games to lead Windham over Oyster River 2-1.
Liam Rutherford was called up from the North Reading JV team and made his presence immediately known by making eight saves in a 0-0 tie with Georgetown. The Royals’ Gus Savage had six saves.
Courtney Sweeny had the hat trick, Rachel Rogers added two goals and Natalie Boyd and Fallon Golden starred on defense as Windham field hockey ripped Bow 6-0.
Meghan O’Connor and Genevieve Gigandet went 1-2 in the diving and Jackie Russolillo was a triple winner as Central Catholic nipped Methuen.
Battle of unbeatens
Andover took the battle of swim unbeatens over Haverhill. Cali Aramian was a quadruple winner for the Hillies while Maeve Awiszus and Soojin Kim were triple winners for Andover.
Emily Mueskes scored two goals and Kelly Guyer scored the dramatic game-winner with seven seconds left as Georgetown field hockey beat North Reading 3-2 Thursday for its first win. This was mistakenly listed as a North Reading win in yesterday’s paper.
