Defensive stalwart Tommy Maguire did double duty on offense, rushing for 68 yards and a touchdown, catching four passes for 39 yards and intercepting two passes on PAT tries. He returned the second one 102 yards for two points as the Hillies played a strong second half to defeat Lawrence 26-12. Maguire, who also rushed for two two-point conversions, received a game ball for his all-around performance.
After last week’s disappointment, Central Catholic leader D’Andre Drummond-Mayrie had something to prove. He did so on defense as the defensive back made a team-high 12 tackles and added an interception right before halftime on Andover’s best drive of the first three quarters. He added 52 rushing yards and a touchdown in the first half.
Putting the ESPN highlight events of last week behind him, linebacker Markus Edmunds stood out on defense with 10 tackles and a pass defended. He opened the scoring in the first half with a 31-yard touchdown run, then took over for Drummond-Mayrie at running back in the second half and rushed for 32 yards. He also had an interception called back for pass interference.
