Saluting our Unsung Heroes

Alicia Bilsky

Central Catholic Swimming

New and Improved

The former soccer player’s only swimming prior to this season was in her backyard pool. Now she’s approaching 30 seconds in the 50 freestyle and placed in the 100 backstroke vs. Billerica.

“She’s made extreme strides,” said Raider coach Carlton Cronin. “She’s always striving to improve herself.”

The junior from Pelham is a member of the National Honor Society who is taking online courses in oceanography and genetics. She helps bring CCHS alumni back to the school to discuss their careers.

Bilsky also plays varsity lacrosse and is known for her home-made brownies. Her older brother, John, played football and lax for the Raiders.

Kayla Saras

Andover Field Hockey

Comeback Trail

As if Andover needed more weapons, coach Maureen Noone eagerly anticipates the return to full strength of senior midfielder Kayla Saras.

Hip surgery in March kept her out of lacrosse but she’s rounding into form.

“With her on the field, we will be much stronger,” said Noone, who added, “She’s an all-around great kid and a perfect ‘Unsung Hero.’”

Saras passed on her love of the sport to her sister, Nicole, who is on the freshman field hockey team.

Kayla’s favorites include skiing at Sunday River, “The Office,” “Bridesmaids,” “Hunger Games” and Taylor Swift.

For college she’s looking at Delaware, Clemson and Indiana.

Coaches or ADs should send nominations to Unsung Heroes writer Michael Muldoon at mmuldoon@eagletribune.com.
