Last Saturday was quite a day for Phillips Academy ice hockey, and the Big Blue haven’t even started their 2013-14 season just yet.
In the afternoon, former Phillips star Chris Kreider scored three goals as his New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2. Then, in the evening, ex-Phillips goalie Cory Schneider of Boxford recorded a shutout as the New Jersey Devils shut out Buffalo 1-0.
Both were named the No. 1 star of their games.
Kreider, who was facing former Rangers’ coach John Tortorella, who shuffled him in and out of the lineup last year, now has six goals and 10 assists for the year. Schneider, meanwhile, has an impressive 1.72 goals-against average in 12 games. This was his second shutout of the season.
