2013 Eagle-Tribune Boys Basketball All-Star Team

Super Team

Sam Dowden

Andover High School, Senior Forward

Super Teamer. Two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star. Four-year starter. Three-time All-conference choice. Two-year captain. Boudeau Award winner at Christmas tourney. Averaged 15.3 points, 7 rebounds a game. Finished with 965 career points. “Got everyone’s best and most attention. Battled every possession of every game,” said coach David Fazio. Top student with 2000 on SAT.

Isaiah Nelsen

North Andover High, Senior Forward

Super Teamer. Twice on our All-Star team. All-Cape Ann League as a junior. All-MVC as a senior. Captain. “Complete player with a high basketball IQ,” said coach Mike McVeigh. Scored 17.8 points and led sectional finalists with over 12 rebounds a game. Hurt people inside and out with 23 3-pointers. Netted 20 in shocking comeback win over Central. Will play on full scholarship at St. Anselm College. Works summers counseling young children.

Chris Bardwell

North Andover High, Senior Forward

The “Story” of the winter. Buried as a junior reserve at Central last year. Named conference MVP this year. All-Scholastic. Led sectional finalists, second in region with 20.3 points a game. Aggressive offensive rebounder. Yanked 9 boards a night. Southpaw, shot 58 percent from the field. Averaged 21.9 points a game vs. Central, Andover and Lowell. Will pitch this spring. Older brother Zach was two-sport all-conference athlete at Central.

Justin Reyes

Whittier Tech, Senior Forward

Super Teamer. Two-year starter. CAC Large School MVP. CAC vs. CAL All-Star Game MVP. IAABO Board 27 Tournament MVP. Two-time league champion. All-Scholastic. Averaged 20.3 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks a night. “Did whatever it took to make us successful,” said coach Tom Sipsey. Natural athlete. Tried football and finished 20 catches, 425 yards and 6 TDs in the fall. Looking to play Division 3 hoop in college.

Brooks School, Senior Guard

Three-year starter. Captain. Overcame catastrophic leg injury. First-team All-ISL. Won league’s Navoni Award for character, courage, commitment. IAABO Board 130 Courage Award winner. Averaged 12.9 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds a game. “Best defensive player I’ve ever coached,” said John McVeigh. Voted school prefect, Brooks’ top leadership honor. Plays baseball. Starred in fall play. Brother Joel (Central) also on our team.
