In Coach Paul D. Murphy's eyes, the two-year drought was long enough.
His Phillips Andover Academy girls swimmers, defeated by Exeter in the traditional dual clash of rivals, made amends over the weekend ... and then some.
Phillips, projected to be 70 points behind in pre-meet seedings, pulled off the shocker by winning the New England Prep School Championship.
Phillips had dominated this meet each year from 2002 through 2006. This title is the eighth in the 36-year history of the program.
The Big Blue rode its depth to claim greatness, winning just one event.
The quartet of Lexi Moroney, Molly Levene, Alanna Waldman and Peyton Morss raced home in a 1:41.25 clocking, just enough to beat the Exeter entry. That proved to be the difference in the final tally between the two, 347.5 for champion Andover and 342.5 for runner-up Exeter.
Senior Salena Casha of Andover grabbed a second in the 200 IM and also placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke. Junior Allie Hall, also of Andover, was second in the 500 free and sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Sophomore Theresa Faller of North Reading placed fourth in the 100 backstroke. Captain Annie Glancy of Andover came home fifth in the 100 butterfly.
