HOOKSETT, N.H. — Pinkerton senior guard Steph Sayward wasn't even sure if she was going to play. A bad case of the stomach flu forced her to sit out the Astros' win over Exeter in Saturday's Class L quarterfinals.
She was still feeling a bit queasy but suited up for last night's semifinal match-up with Trinity.
Sayward made the most of her 16 minutes on the floor, hitting two 3-pointers — the second of which gave her team a 33-32 lead with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.
"Usually I don't hit threes," Sayward said. "But they were dropping in tonight."
The game-tying trey was, at the time, the biggest shot of the game.
"When I saw it rolling around the rim," Guidi said, "I knew it was going in."
Sayward provided the boost the Astros needed.
"She adds a little energy to the team," Barry said. "She picks us up."
Semifinal wrapup: In the other Class L final last night, unbeaten Winnacunnet destroyed Manchester Central, 74-35.
