Fagan, Viens emerge as surprise heroes

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The shock throughout the JFK Coliseum was palpable after Timberlane fell behind 2-0 with 6:51 left in the first period.

But it was the unlikely pair of Cam Fagan and Austin Viens — who entered the game with a combined four goals for the season — that led the Owls all the way back.

"When we went down 2-0 it was just dead," said Fagan, "I though it would be (Trevor) DeVitto, (Zach) Fox or (Nick) Bundzinski that would get us back in the game. I definitely didn't think it would be me.

It was Fagan that kicked off the rally. The junior defenseman took a feed from Fox and blasted in the first goal of his varsity career, and the first goal by an Owls defenseman all season, to make it 2-1.

"It was pure bliss," he said. "It was the biggest game of my career, and I scored my first goal. I can't believe it. That goal sparked us. Without it, I don't know if we would have won."

Just 33 seconds, later Viens tied the game with just his second goal in the Owls' last 17 games.

"Dave Evans shot the puck and it bounced off the goalie's pads," said Viens. "I just came up and buried it. I feel like it was an important goal. I think it game the team a needed boost."

That goal gave the Owls momentum they would never surrender, as DeVitto gave Timberlane the lead 1:17 into the second.

"After we fell behind we looked at each other and said, 'Oh no,'" said Nick Bundzinski. "What those two did was huge."

It wasn't done there. With 12 seconds left in the second period, Fagan fired a pass to Viens, who scored the goal that would turn out to be the winner.

It with the first career multi-goal game for Viens, who now has six goals for the season. It was the fourth multi-point game of the season for Fagan (1-9—10).

"Scoring the game-winner was just crazy," said Viens, a sophomore forward. "I'm thrilled. We started off slow, but we picked it up when it counted."
