Around the Horn: Emily Boyle, North Andover field hockey

What did it mean to tie Andover? “It was so exciting. Some of the girls on our team were crying. The game after us, Chelmsford beat them. We were saying (jokingly) we made them lose their confidence and allowed Chelmsford to beat them.”

Your goal must have been special? “When I came home I couldn’t sleep or eat. I was so happy. That last minute after I scored I was so nervous they’d score. It was overwhelming emotions.”

What’s your favorite personal athletic achievement? “That by far. Nothing can even compare to that.”

How are you doing academically? “I’m 13th in my class (out of 290). I got an 1,850 on my SATs and I just took them again.”

Do you play any other sports? “Freshman and sophomore year I did lacrosse and indoor track but I quit those because field hockey was the only one I really enjoyed. We do indoor and summer league field hockey.”

What’s been the lowest point of your career? “Last year when I made varsity for the first time. I didn’t play the first game. But in about a week I worked my way up to be a starter.”

Are you looking at any schools? “My top three are UMass Amherst, Northeastern and University of New England. Northeastern is probably my No. 1 but I like them all.”

Do you work? “I work the counter at Tripoli’s Bakery in North Andover.”

What’s the best thing to order? “I’d recommend the lobster tail. It’s a pastry that’s crusty on the outside and has ricotta cheese and whipped cream.”

What’s something people don’t know about you? “I have a lot of Disney songs on my iPod. Maybe 20.”

Your coach, Courtney Breen, said you went from 15 minutes a game last year at forward to 60 minutes a game this year on defense. “It’s definitely a lot more challenging playing the entire game and having to be a real leader on the field. It was a big adjustment. I liked scoring goals but I’d rather play the whole game and not get the glory of scoring goals.”

Are you from an athletic family? “Everyone in my family plays sports. My sister, Maggie, is a freshman and she’s on varsity cheerleading. I have a younger sister, Carolyn, a 7th grader, and a younger brother, Jimmy, a 5th grader, who are very athletic.”

What’s your dream job? “I want to major in chemistry and hopefully work in a lab doing research.”

Who’s your dream date? “Ryan Sheckler. He’s a skateboarder who used to have a show on MTV.”

What is your pet peeve? “When I’m late for school because of my sister.”

Who do you follow on Twitter-Facebook? “Field hockey central, Mr. Longley our athletic director, Kim Kardashian.”

Have you ever met anybody famous? “I went on stage on a Boys Like Girls concert and got a water bottle off the stage.”

What is the most embarrassing song you have in your iPod? “‘Start of Something New’ from ‘High School Musical.’”

If you were named principal, what’s the first thing you’d do? “I’d get rid of the rotating schedule.”
