Morgan's arm helps lift Haverhill to big victory

---- — DRACUT — Was that Tommy Brady or Tommy Morgan playing quarterback for the Hillies last night?

Morgan wasn’t perfect but he had two perfect long touchdown throws down the sidelines.

The first was the prettiest: a 52-yard strike to the speedy Shain Roche down the left sideline to put Haverhill ahead by five points just four seconds before halftime.

The other was a 61-yard pass to Jordan Javier down the right sideline. The ball appeared to deflect off the Dracut defensive back and land right in Javier’s hands. He went uncontested into the end zone.

Morgan was 12 for 23 for 243 yards and three touchdown. Talented running back Chance Brady rushed 36 times for 225 yards.

They were the Heroes as the Hillies posted an impressive 51-28 victory over Dracut here at Dracut High.

“I saw there was no safety over the top, one guy on me and I figured, ‘Hey, I’m going to go get this,’” Roche said about his TD catch right before halftime. “Tommy threw a perfect ball. I ran right by the kid and broke a tackle at the end. Tommy threw a perfect ball — the best ball I’ve ever seen him throw in my life. And I’ve been playing with him since sixth grade. So I’ve seen a lot of throws.”

Did Morgan think it was the best ball he has ever thrown?

“Yeah, I told him (Roche) that we’ll never do that again,” Morgan said, smiling. “I looked up and I was like, ‘Wow, that’s still going?’ They were in cover-four so we were just going to take into the half. But for some reason they took out a safety. And we knew we could take a shot down the field so we did and Roche made a great play.”

Javier’s touchdown in the fourth made it 44-28, ending any hope of a Dracut comeback.
