The Final Score

Windham steps it up

Clairee Putnam led all scorers with 18, helping lift Windham to a 54-50 win over Nashua North in the Nashua Girls Christmas Tournament. The Jags next face Exeter, Friday at 4 p.m.

Pelham fell to South in the same tourney, 50-31. Friday at noon, the Pythons face Milford.

Central skates past Prep

In a showcase of two of the state’s elite hockey programs, Central Catholic had the upper hand, slicing through St. John’s Prep, 2-1, last night. The Raiders broke to a 2-0 lead in the third on goals by Lloyd Hayes and Mike Kelleher. Colin Soucy made the goals hold up, stopping 27 of 28 shots for the win. The only Prep marker came in the final two minutes by North Andover’s Brian Pinho to make things a bit dicey, but the Raiders held on to move to 3-1.

Timberlane falls

The Timberlane boys hoop team fell to the host team at the Oyster River Christmas tournament, 55-37. Mitch McDonald tossed in a dozen for the Owls.

Cats drop first

Whittier Tech squandered a 16-point halftime lead, getting outscored 29-8 in the fourth quarter, to fall to Melrose, 64-53. Andrew Wells hit six 3s and paced the Cats with 20.
