Running Knights too much for Methuen

LAWRENCE — North Andover played a first half yesterday afternoon like it felt it should be playing in the finals of the Greater Lawrence Christmas Tournament.

The Knights ran and scored at will while putting 51 points on the board on their way to a rousing 86-57 consolation victory over Methuen.

Isaiah Nelsen led four players in double figures for the Knights (5-1), who relied far more on running the court than firing up 3-pointers. Alex Gorgoni added 15 points.

For Methuen, Cooper Hammel had four 3-pointers and led the Rangers (1-4) with 18 points, two more than Tim Galloway-Burke.

Salem breaks ice

Led by Steve Nugent, Salem broke through for its first win of the season, defeating Greater Lawrence 57-41 in the first game of the day.

Nugent scored a game-high 21 points and was at his best in the pivotal second quarter, scoring 10 points as the Blue Devils pulled away for a 31-19 halftime advantage. Jack Hartman helped out with nine of his 11 points in the first half.

For Greater Lawrence, Oscar Reynoso had nearly half of the Reggies’ points, drilling four 3-pointers on his way to 20 points.
