LAWRENCE HOOPS

AT UMASS LOWELL

Lawrence girls basketball is playing Lowell High on Saturday at 12 p.m. at UMass Lowell’s Costello Athletic Center.

That game will be followed by a 2 p.m. contest between UMass Lowell women’s basketball and Southern Connecticut State University.

BIG GAME ALERT

Central Catholic boys hockey (5-1-1) plays at Austin Prep (3-1-2) at 8 p.m. today. Central was ranked No. 3 in the Globe’s Top 20 poll that came out Monday while Austin Prep was ranked 14th.

The two schools also play Jan. 30.

HALL OF FAME VOTING

The results of the 2013 National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot will be announced live on MLB Network and simulcast on MLB.com today at 2 p.m. as part of a three-hour announcement show beginning at 12 p.m.

Hall of Fame voters Jon Heyman, Ken Rosenthal and Tom Verducci will be featured on the show.

PROJECTED SOX SALARIES

MLBTradeRumors.com projected the 2013 salaries for each of the nine Red Sox players who are arbitration eligible. They are estimated to make a combined $32.2 million. Here are the salaries the website projects for each of the nine:

Andrew Bailey ($3.9 million). Alfredo Aceves ($2.6 million). Daniel Bard ($1.6 million). Andrew Miller ($1.4 million). Franklin Morales ($1.4 million). Jacoby Ellsbury ($8.1 million). Jarrod Saltalamacchia ($3.9 million). Craig Breslow ($2.4 million). Joel Hanrahan ($6.9 million).

COUSIN’S SHOE SIZE

There have been some reports that the Boston Celtics are interested in acquiring Kings center DeMarcus Cousins.

The 6-11, 270-pounder has a size 16 foot wearing Nike sneakers, according to NBA.com.

MARRONE, NASSIB REUNION?

QB Ryan Nassib had a strong season for Syracuse University, completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 3,749 yards and 26 touchdowns.

You have to wonder if new Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone, who coached the past four years at Syracuse, will draft his former QB who is projected to go in the second round of the NFL draft.

KELLY WANT TO COACH PATS?

John Canzano of The Oregonian recently wrote a column on Ducks head coach and New Hampshire native Chip Kelly who just decided not to coach in the NFL next season but instead stay at Oregon.

“I now suspect he would only trade it for the dream gig of every little kid who grows up in New England — head coach of the Patriots,” Canzano wrote.

He also wrote: “Kelly visited with the Patriots this offseason. It’s been well-documented. The Patriots now use some of Kelly’s no-huddle terminology and basic concepts. And I wondered as the Browns and Eagles invested their time trying to convince Kelly they had dream jobs for him, if they could ever measure up to what Kelly learned from spending time with (Bill) Belichick, who has unique control of Robert Kraft’s franchise in the same way Kelly does at Oregon.”

LAROCHE RE-SIGNING WITH NATS

Free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche will re-sign with the Washington Nationals. He accepted a two-year deal.

LaRoche was considered a second option for the Boston Red Sox if they were unable to complete their deal with Mike Napoli.

The reason the Sox were hesitant to offer a contract to LaRoche in the first place is because he received a qualifying offer from Washington, meaning Boston would have had to give up its second round pick if it signed LaRoche.

WEBB BECOMES A CELEB

Miss Alabama 2012 Katherine Webb, the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, only had a few hundred Twitter followers before Monday’s BCS title game.

As of yesterday at 6 p.m., she had 175,138 followers.
