Final score

Windham places third in Div. 2

Led by James Baiguy and Connor Hopkins, Windham came in third in state Division 2 boys swimming competition. Baiguy placed sixth in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke while Hopkins was fourth in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Both helped the 200 freestyle relay come in second and the 200 medley relay take third.

Haverhill wins Small School title

Saul Phiri recorded a season-high in points (28) and rebounds (16) to lead Haverhill boys basketball 64-60 over Chelmsford. With the win, the Hillies claimed the MVC Small School title.

Methodical victory

Amanda Williams had 21 points as Central Catholic girls basketball slowly but surely built its lead over North Andover, eventually finishing with a 57-38 victory. Sophomore Megan Collins came off the bench with 15 points and six rebounds for North Andover.

Meghan an impact

Meghan O’Connor placed in four events to lead Windham to fifth at the state Division 2 girls swim meet. The junior came in second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.25) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.31) before helping the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays finish third and sixth respectively.

Petrow dominates

Amanda Petrow had quite a game, scoring 25 points and grabbing 19 rebounds while Abby Galloway-Burke added 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Methuen girls basketball 54-51 over Lowell.

Lowell outscored Methuen 25-10 in the fourth but the Rangers held on for the three-point win.

Agganis erupts

Marisa Agganis erupted for 29 points with six 3-pointers as Georgetown whipped Amesbury 62-34 in girls basketball.

Mastascusa ties season high

North Reading 6-4 senior forward John Mastascusa tied his season high in points (26) to lead the Hornets 58-38 over Hamilton-Wenham in boys basketball action.

The Hornets are 18-0 with two games remaining.

Christopher by an eyelash

Kerry Christopher of Andover won the giant slalom in a photo finish over Manchester’s Alex Marshall 21.95-21.96. She led the Golden Warriors to the Interscholastic (North Shore League) Meet championship. Andover also got a third from Julia Ganley and a fourth from Sara Faigel. Catie Wolstromer took seventh to lead North Andover.

Astros’ first division loss

Pinkerton girls basketball suffered its first Division 1 loss yesterday, dropping a 57-42 decision to defending champion Bishop Guertin.

Both teams are tied at the top of the standings with a 14-1 record.

The Astros had lost to Salem earlier this year, but that was in the Greater Lawrence Christmas Tournament so it didn’t count toward the D-1 standings.
