Final score

Undefeated season for Hornets

For only the second time in program history and first time since 1977, North Reading boys basketball went undefeated during the regular season.

The Hornets, behind John Mastascusa’s 17 points, posted a 61-46 victory over Shawsheen to cap off a 20-0 regular season.

It wasn’t easy. North Reading trailed 11-2 early.

Silveira wins MVP

Max Silveira (11 points in the final, 12 in semifinal) was named MVP of the Roche Bros. Roundball Classic after his Andover boys basketbal squad won 60-39 over Somerville in the championship game last night.

The Nugent Show

The fourth quarter was the Steve Nugent show as he scored all 10 of Salem’s points including a bucket in the final minute to send the game to overtime. From there, Jack Hartman hit a quick 3-pointer while Michael Felix’s steal and basket gave the Blue Devils the lead to stay, toppling Exeter, 57-53 in boys basketball. Nugent finished with 22 points and five steals while freshman Matt Vartanian had eight rebounds and five points.
