Odds and ends: The transfer of junior staff ace Dustin Hunt (5-2, 1.88 ERA) and promising sophomore catcher Michael Geaslen to St. John's Prep was a major blow. ... Andrew Deloury, one of the top young hitters in the region, is still on the comeback trail from a football injury. ... Freshman Alex Brickman and Reid Bryant each played varsity basketball. ... Andrew Johnian, 1-0 with under 10 innings pitched, is the most polished pitcher the Warriors have.

Assistants: Kevin Shepard (assistant); Brian Carey (JV), Rob Michaud (JV assistant), Rich Robinson (Freshmen)

Coach Dan Grams (3rd year, 21-21): "They are hungry and they work very hard. We have lot of guys seeing varsity time for the time. If the pitching holds up, we're going to be in good shape."

Assistants: Myles Page, assistant; Scott Campbell, JV; Billy Morin, freshmen

Coach Marc Pelletier (25th year, 304-208): "Paul Trabucco, Andrew Hamel, Bobby Angelo and a host of pitching prospects will handle the mound."

Returning honorees: Stas Firek, MVC All-Star

Odds and ends: Chip Dunn was let go after last season. He had a 210-235 record in 23 years with the Hillies. New coach Chip Forrest, who was hired in February, was fired in early March. AD Tom O'Brien will coach the team this spring. .. Complete Eagle-Tribune records go back through the 1987 season and in that span last year was Haverhill's fewest wins in a season. ... Brendon Bretton returns for a fifth year in what has been an injury plagued career.

Assistants: John Scamporino (JV); Larry O'Brien (freshmen); Ryan Ricci (freshmen assistant)

Coach Tom O'Brien (1st year): "New coach, new players, still too early to assign this team with any type of identity. They come to the field every day willing to work hard. We have some talented baseball players, too. I know we will have some fun and maybe win a game or two."

Pitcher Nelson Rodriguez and JV coach Nelson Rodriguez are not related ... Lawrence is still attempting to get clearance for Jose Abreu to join the team. The talented middle infielder hit a hard .440, driving in 16 runs for Greater Lawrence Tech last spring, but has since transferred to Lawrence High.

Assistants: Arthur Halloran (assistant), Kevin Fielding (assistant); Nelson Rodriguez (JV); Juan Flete (freshmen)

Coach Brendan Neilon (10th year, 95-93): "We've been the hunted and now we are back to being the hunter. We'll try to find guys to step up."

In 1996, Cyr took over a program which hadn't made the state tourney in six years. In nine years, he guided the Rangers to an 88-97 record and won MVC Large co-championships his last two years, when the Rangers went 29-14. He was Eagle-Tribune Coach of the Year in 2003. ... Cam Cyr is Eric's nephew/godson. Dicky Aziz is assistant coach Rob Aziz' cousin. Sharp sophomore Enrique Veras is the younger brother of ex-Ranger/current Marlins minor leaguer Jhiomar Veras.

Assistants: Rob Aziz (assistant), Rob Prindle (assistant); Kevin DeMaria (JV); Chris Cyr (freshmen)

Coach Eric Cyr (1st year, 10th year overall: 88-97): "We're a talented group, a little raw, but we just have to sharpen up the edges. The sophomore Veras is going to surprise some people. It's him, Cam Cyr and Cam Conway on the mound with Eric Lacroix stepping up in a relief role. Ten wins is the goal."
