Pinkerton girls basketball seeded No. 3

Top-seed and defending champion Bishop Guertin looks to be a big favorite to repeat as the Division 1 girls basketball champion.

The Cardinals (17-1), who open with No. 16 seed Timberlane, have won their last 14 games and few of those games have been close. They haven’t given up 50 points all year and their average point differential is 30 points per game. They defeated a solid Londonderry team 78-32 earlier in the year and surprising Salem 91-36.

No. 3 seed Pinkerton (16-2), despite having one of the younger teams in the state, may have as good a chance as anyone of toppling BG, having only lost 57-42 in their one meeting.

No. 4 seed Londonderry (14-4) could surprise, however. The Lancers were a state finalist last year and they’ve won their last five games. Salem (11-7) is the No. 8 seed and has shown it can give anyone a run for its money.

In Division 2, Windham (14-4) is the No, 3 seed and will be in a pack trying to upset No. 1 seed Lebanon (18-0), which cruised during the regular season. In fact, its closest game all season was a 23-point victory (60-37) over Windham.

Division 2 first-round games start today with Windham hosting Souhegan and No. 11 Pelham opening at Goffstown while Division 1 games get underway tomorrow.
