Central boys capture state pentathlon title

BOSTON — Alex Dehullu scored 3,132 points, Jeremy Zannini 3,049 and D’Andre Drummond-Mayrie 2,911 as Central Catholic rolled to the easy team victory at the state pentathlon.

Dehullu placed fifth, Zannini eighth and Drummond-Mayrie 17th in the grueling 116-athlete competition.

Athletes did the hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and 1,000 in the one-day event.

The 55-meter hurdles was a key event for the Raiders with Zannini the runner-up with a 7.93, Dehullu placing fourth in 7.95 and Drummond-Mayrie 12th in 8.29.

“The three of them kicked butt in the hurdles,” said Raider coach Mike Leal.

Drummond-Mayrie (41-5) and Dehullu (40-5) also scored big in the shot put.

Yesterday’s result wasn’t a big surprise.

The same three combined to win the North Decathlon last spring. Last winter’s state pentathlon was snowed out.

“We thought we could win it,” said Leal.

“We didn’t score under 400 points in any event. That’s all three of them. Their versatility is the big thing.”
