---- — WORCESTER — The Merrimack women’s lacrosse team dropped its season opener 16-11 to Assumption.
“This was obviously a big blow to our young team today but you can’t take 45 shots and only score 11 goals,” said head coach Corinne Desrosiers. “In our early defensive setup, we let in some quick easy goals, and paid the price for it the rest of the game.”
Olivia Huie led the way with three goals and one assist. Captain Jenn Pino added three goals while Katie Trahanas and Tyler Szymanski each scored twice.
Amy McNeil had eight goals for the Hounds.
The Merrimack men’s tennis team lost its opener to New York Institute of Technology 6-3.
Warriors Matt Pronesti and Matt Lipinski won at second and third singles, respectively.
Merrimack baseball split with Bridgeport, losing the opener 4-3 and rebounding to roll in the nightcap 14-1.
Mike Laracy fired five innings of three-hit, one-run ball to earn the Warrior win. He improved to 2-0.
