---- — BYFIELD — Andover’s Siobhan McDonough, a senior at Governor’s Academy, has been named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
In all 81 players were named: 60 seniors, 19 juniors and two sophomores. She was the only local athlete honored.
Her impact on the soccer field has been felt since she arrived in Byfield. She was a four-year varsity starter and during the 2011 and 2012 seasons, she co-captained the Govs to back-to-back New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class B titles.
McDonough, a midfielder, finished the 2012 season with 11 goals and seven assists, was named the ISL Offensive MVP, and team MVP. During her junior year, she was selected all-league and all-state.
Coach Mike Karin praised her noting, “She is a unique player that combines the highest level of fitness and skill with effort. Her ball skills are very strong and her fitness matches that level. She never appears to slow down while wearing down her opponents. We have her to thank for scoring some clutch goals because of her pace of play.”
Siobhan has made a verbal commitment to play soccer at the University of Pittsburgh.
“She is one of the best players we have ever had at this school and is ready to handle the challenge of playing against the top college teams in the country,” said Karin.
McDonough is also a member of the ice hockey and track teams. She has won two NEPSAC Division 2 championships with her hockey team, and is a captain this winter. She was named All-ISL last season.
