With the score tied at a run apiece in the bottom of the eighth, freshman Matt Brown ripped a huge two-RBI single and Merrimack beat Saint Michael’s 3-1.
Sean O’Neill started the inning with a hit and moved up on a sacrifice and a groundout.
After back-to-back hit batsmen, Brown delivered.
Beau Batchelor improved to 2-0 with three scoreless relief innings.
Joe Mantoni picked up his team-leading third save after striking out two in the ninth.
Winners of two in a row and seven of their last eight, the Warriors improved to 13-6, 4-1 NE-10. St. Michael’s fell to 5-10.
LIU Post swept the Merrimack softball team 3-1 and 12-5. Kelli Jo Deardorff, who went the distance, was the hard-luck loser in Game 1.
The Warriors led the nightcap 5-3 but LIU Post exploded for nine runs in the sixth. Lindsay Gibbs, Tawny Palmieri and Nicole LoPilato each had two hits in the game for the Warriors (5-9).
