When the title character in Disney Channel's "Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board" returns to Oahu, Hawaii, for his grandfather's wedding, the 17-year-old surfer-turned-snowboarder is itching to hit the waves. On the way to Grandpa's, he crosses paths with a pack of teenagers riding oversize skateboards and soon picks up a new sport, mountain boarding, and spends much of the film surfing the Hawaiian hills instead of surfing.
"Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board" is a sequel to 1999's "Johnny Tsunami," starring Brandon Baker as a rebellious youngster who relocates to Vermont with his parents. Not until his grandfather, fictional surfing legend Johnny Tsunami, makes a surprise visit and gives the boy some sage advice, does young Johnny accept Vermont as home.
