Sanborn falters after halftime

KINGSTON, N.H. - The Sanborn Regional High boys played a half like a team hungry to earn a Class M playoff spot.

Unfortunately, Mascenic pulled away after the intermission, pinning a 59-36 loss on the Indians.

Now 2-6 in Class M play, Sanborn remains right on the bubble at the 16th spot, knowing full well a couple more victories down the stretch would assure the postseason.

"After a game like this we try to rally around games like the win over Mascenic and focus on what we did there," said junior captain Robby Ficker, who despite foul trouble led Sanborn with nine points.

Ficker was playing his first game back after missing two games with a concussion.

His spark off the bench, with seven of his nine before the break, kept Sanborn in it.

Hanging tough with 7-2 Newmarket, the Indians were down eight, 26-18, headed to the third.

In that fateful quarter, Ficker was quickly hit with fouls 2, 3 and 4 and Sanborn was outscored 20-12 as Newmarket edged away.

Rob Verrault worked the paint, grabbing eight points and nine boards for the Indians, who next host Somersworth in a huge game Tuesday.
