Salem State senior guard Marquis Victor, a Central Catholic grad from Lawrence, is tearing up the court at Salem State for the defending MASCAC Champions.
He's started in all 14 games for the 10-4 Vikings, averaging a team-high 14.7 points. His 27.9 minutes and 48 free throws both lead the team, and he's also second on the team in steals (18), assists (33), and 3-pointers (28).
Victor had his game of the year in a heartbreaking 90-89 double-overtime loss to Endicott last Thursday, scoring a game-high 27 points. He followed that up with an 18-point performance in a 91-63 win over Fitchburg State on Saturday, where he finished 6-for-13 from the field, including 3 for 6 from beyond the arc.
He also poured in a team-high 16 points in a tough 77-74 loss to Westfield State on Tuesday. It was the Vikings' first MASCAC loss of the season.
Former Hillies in the swim of things
Led by Kathleen Foley, a slew of former Haverhill swimmers have been enjoying success at the college level.
Foley, a sophomore, was a key part of UMass Dartmouth's 122-117 win over WPI last week. Foley's victory in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 1:13.37, sealed the deal for the Corsairs. Foley was also part of the 200-yard medley relay team that won its event clocking in at 2:04.24.
Central Catholic grad Sarah Martin, also of Haverhill, finished third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 butterfly for Northeastern against Boston University and New Hampshire last Saturday.
Last Sunday, former Hillie Maura Donovan, a junior at Hamilton, finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:30.72. ... Bradford's Ed Gillie, who graduated from St. John's Prep, has been a consistent contributor to the Wheaton swim team. ... Stefan and Stephanie Opolski, both Haverhill grads, are sophomore contributors in the water at Holy Cross.
Stahl racking up points
Londonderry's Jason Stahl is ranked third on the UMass Dartmouth hockey team with 12 points in 14 games - not bad for a freshman.
Stahl, who played for the Valley Jr. Warriors last year, and head coach Andy Heinze of North Andover, has four goals for the Corsairs, who are off to an 8-6-1 start. He leads his team in penalty minute with 27, and seven of his points have come in UMD's six conference games.

Pelham's James Roman has appeared in 10 games as a reserve for Southern New Hampshire. He has 10 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks in 80 minutes. ... Methuen's Michael DeFusco, who also played for the Jr. Warriors last season, is a reserve on the SNHU hockey team.
Windham's Chase Feole is a senior forward for Stonehill. Derry's James Killeen, a junior defenseman who graduated from Proctor Academy, is also on Stonehill's roster.
Brown leading RIC despite injury bug
Lawrence's Carlos Brown, who graduated from Central Catholic, is the second leading scorer for Rhode Island College, despite missing about half of his team's games.
He has appeared in eight contests, starting just three, but has averaged 11.0 points per game. He leads his team shooting 43.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Penny and MacPhee early soaring
Windham's Chris MacPhee and Andover's John Penny have each produced when given time in the St. Anselm lineup.
MacPhee, a sophomore forward, has two goals and two assists in seven games. Meanwhile, his teammate is one slot ahead on the score sheet (5 points - 1 goal, 4 assists).
Andover's Matt Colby has two goals in five games as a freshman for the Salem State hockey team. He is joined by Haverhill's Jeffery Woods, a freshman goalie who has yet to see his first action.
In hoop action, Franklin Pierce's Jack Barrett (Andover) and Danny Singh (Lawrence) have each only played one game due to injury issues.
Fielding honors at Westfield State
It's been quite a season for Methuen's Jay Fielding, a junior linebacker in the fall for Westfield State who graduated from Central Catholic.
Fielding had a sensational season, leading the NCAA Division III in tackles per game with an average of 15.7. He had 141 tackles, including 77 solo tackles, and three fumble recoveries.
Fielding was the Owls' defensive player of the year. He also was selected to the www.d3football.com Northeast All-Region squad, which encompasses New England, New York, New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania.
Additionally, he was a New England sports writers' Division II/III all-star, All-ECAC, and a first-team selection in the New England Football Conference.
Vetri dismissed from Quinnipiac
Windham's Peter Vetri has been dismissed from the Quinnipiac hockey team due to academic reasons, according to a school spokesman.
Vetri had started nine games this season for the Bobcats, earning a 2.09 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
The former UMass Lowell netminder was Hockey East's Rookie of the Year in 2004-05, before transferring to Quinnipiac after his sophomore season. He was eligibility-wise a junior for the Bobcats.
