Coach Chris Dyer (2nd year, 7-10-1): "I've got the guys motivated to break even this year. We'll see. The younger guys will have to learn quick. Brian Lundquist is very fast and obviously an excellent goal-scorer. Brian and Trevor Glines and Joey Ertsos work well together."

Coach Phil Youngclaus (2nd year, 1-10-2): "I think (Christian Cano and Matt Jasinski) are good leaders. The (players) know what to expect. They know how hard they have to work. We're hoping to get on the board and be strong defensively."

Odds and ends: Former coach Andy Pigeon compiled a 28-52-10 record in five years. He still teaches at Whittier but gave up coaching to pursue his master's. ... New coach Tjitse Boringa, a native of the Netherlands, came to the United States 24 years. He's a longtime youth coach in North Andover who teaches culinary arts at Whittier. Boringa's son, Ryan, is a runner at North Andover High and his daughter, Katie, was a three-sport athlete there. ... New assistant coach John Biafore also teaches at Whittier.

Coach Tjitse Boringa (6th year, 28-52-10): "The kids are coming off a tough season but they are positive. We scrimmaged Greater Lowell and we had a good showing. Jacob Bradwell works great on the right. We're excited about freshman Felipe Guimaraes. Jared Nicklas is a very talented player. Matt Capprini will anchor the defense."
