What's your family like?
"I have one older sister, Lan-Vi, who's 21-years-old. She went to Pinkerton, too. She didn't play sports so much, I guess I'm mainly the athletic one in the family. I also have a cat named Little Toast. My sister named her, so I don't know how she came up with it."
What do you like about playing libero?
"I like it because I'm the only one on the team, so a lot of what happens on the floor is up to me. You have to give a good pass to give a good set and everything. I like the pressure, too I guess. It was really nice to be a captain this year, too."
Do you play any other sports?
"I play tennis in the spring, both doubles and singles. I'm not bad, I was fourth on the team last year. I like them both, but I definitely like volleyball better. I play in the offseason, too."
How was the volleyball team so successful this year (20-2 record)?
"We've all been playing together for a pretty long time. Most of our starters returned, so we were used to playing with each other. Most of the girls on the team played in the offseason this year, too."
What's your career volleyball highlight?
"Our semifinal game against Nashua North (a 3-0 sweep) was huge because we lost to them before and they had a ton of rowdy fans, so it was crazy. I definitely played better that game than I did during the final. It was frustrating in the final because Spaulding kept the ball away from me and you can't really do anything about it if they're not hitting it to you."
What are some of your hobbies away from volleyball?
"I like hanging out with my friends, going to the beach, and I like snowboarding, too. Last year, I was in ski club, so I went out a couple times. I used to ski — for like six years or so — and started snowboarding a couple years ago, so I'm still kind of new to it. I can get down the mountain without falling a lot, but getting off the chair lift is still the hardest part. I always fall and knock the other people off."
Are you superstitious at all?
"For volleyball, we kind of have a routine before the game. When the other team's warming up, we go into a little room and we all have to sit in the same place, so we're kind of superstitious. That's our time when Coach talks to us and helps us prepare."
Any plans for next year?
"I applied to a couple of schools, and I really like Northeastern. I'm planning on applying to UConn, Clemson, Brown and probably URI. I think I want to study architecture, I took an introduction to drafting class sophomore year and really liked it. Last year, I was 33rd in my class (of about 750 students). My highest SAT score is 1890, but I just took them again at the beginning of the month and those scores haven't been sent out yet."
Is there something interesting about you or the team people don't know?
"Before each game, we do this thing to get us pumped up, it's a dance thing. We go around a circle and we each do a dance move. Kacie (Connal) is really funny with it, her and Mikayla (Floyd). Overall, the team is pretty outgoing and funny."
Time for favorites: Favorite sport to play, favorite sport to watch, athlete, food, drink, store, movie, music, book, Web site?
"Volleyball; football and basketball, I have tickets to go see the Celtics next month so I'm pretty excited; Chris Paul; spaghetti and meatballs; apple juice; Forever 21 and Hollister; 'Titanic,' I watch it all the time; hip/hop R&B and rap, and I like Chris Brown; the 'Harry Potter' series; MySpace or Facebook."
