LOWELL - Alex Wilson and the Lowell Spinners pitching staff carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Joantoni Garcia had a pair of doubles, including a two-run hit that gave the Spinners a pair of insurance runs in a 5-2 win over the Oneonta Tigers last night.
Lowell (34-26) got on the board in the third inning when Garcia reached on a one-out double, coming around to score on a Wilfred Pichardo (2 for 4) RBI single for a 1-0 lead. The Spinners added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 3-0 as the Lowell pitchers kept the Tigers off the base paths.
Drew Hedman (3 for 3) got things started in the fourth inning with a leadoff single, coming around to score on an RBI single by Pichardo. In the fifth inning Ryan Westmoreland led off with a triple down the right field line. With two outs he scored on an RBI single from Hedman,
Wilson who twirled three no-hit innings, walking two and striking out a pair to lower his ERA to 0.60. Ebert threw two scoreless innings before running into trouble in his third inning as he tired. He was touched for both Tigers runs on three hits, striking out four without walking a batter.
Fisher Cats rained out
Last night's scheduled game between New Hampshire and Trenton was postponed due to rain. The two teams will make the game up as part of a single-admission doubleheader today at 1:05 p.m.
