Tackle Scott Goddard made a big stop and defensive back Brian Lemieux alertly snuffed out a reverse. Central’s Ted Rokas scored twice while the Hillies’ Adam Gagne had three TDs. ... In a battle of unbeatens, Andover downed Methuen 27-8. Rick Johnson threw for 111 yards and ran for a score. QB L.J. Grasso had all the Ranger points. ... Jose Baez of Lawrence caught a 40-yard TD pass but Brooks lost to Governor Dummer 30-12. ... Nate Gatchell scored for Georgetown in a 14-8 loss to Greater Lowell. ... Salem’s Montrez Payton (25 carries, 188 yards, 2 TDs) came up big but to no avail in a 35-14 loss to Nashua.

Bo Morales carried 22 times for 147 yards and scored all four TDs as Greater Lawrence beat Pope John 28-6. Steve Miller (164 rushing yards) also had four TDs to lead Londonderry in a 31-0 whitewashing of West. ... A 58-yard TD pass from Luis Del Rios to Steve Bradish was the highlight for Lawrence, which lost to Somerville 21-12. ... Justin St. Hilaire picked off three passes, the last coming in the end zone with 16 seconds left, as North Andover held off Lynnfield 16-14. It turned out to be the Knights’ only win of the season. ... Dan Pacheco and Josh Owen scored for Pelham in a 16-8 win at Fall Mt. ...

Pentucket’s Greg Lunn caught a 3-yard TD pass from Erich Schlitt but that was one of the few highlights in a 21-6 loss to Amesbury. ... Post-grad Pat Sheehan of North Andover racked up 147 yards of offense and scored twice as Phillips topped Kent 27-22. ... In a 33-6 win over Merrimack, Pinkerton’s Jarod Guay booted two field goals and Mark DeBenedetto carried nine times for 136 yards and a score. ... Nick Connolly rushed for 123 yards and Matt Cerne scored but Bishop Guertin drubbed Timberlane 40-7. ... Scott McGibbon scored two TDs, one on a 59-yard pass from Jon Turrisi, as Whittier ripped St. Mary 27-0.

25 years ago: Bryant, Tivo power Lancers

Lawrence (1-4) would win what proved to be it’s only game of the season, beating Haverhill 14-6 as Bill Bryant threw TD passes to Tivo Concepcion and Steve Levesque. Jeff DiBurro scored for the Hillies. ... Chris Kalil, Glenn Farnham and Scott Nadeau scored for Central in a 21-18 loss to St. John’s. CC had fourth down at the 2 with 24 seconds left but confusion reigned and a pass mistakenly thrown to stop the clock ended the threat. ... Mike Hamel (3 TDs) powered Greater Lawrence to a 35-0 thrashing of Chelsea. ... Alex Cayer accounted for all 22 points in Salem’s 22-0 win over Manchester Central. ...

Tempers flared for the second year in a row as Methuen blanked Andover, 20-0. Dan Fugge ran wild with 221 rushing yards and two TDs. John Thompson had 93 receiving yards but Andover had negative 10 yards rushing. ... Sean Rorke of North Andover scored a TD to help his father Dan’s Brooks team whip Governor Dummer 34-0. It was even more of a family affair for coach Jim Collamore and Georgetown in a 26-0 win over hapless St. Patrick’s. His son Frank connected with his other son Bill for a 20-yard TD. Bill scored twice. ... Milford blanked Timberlane 27-0 in what would prove to be a winless season for embattled coach Dick DeVarney and the Owls.

Shawn Tsetsilas threw a TD pass and was one of seven Londonderry players to score in a 50-0 bludgeoning of BG. ... In the second half, Rob Gomez scored on an 80-yard kickoff return and a 50-yard punt return to carry North Andover past Lynnfield 21-6. ... Workhorse Steve Puleo carried 33 times for 145 yards and three TDs for Pentucket, which blanked Ipswich 21-0. ... Bash Brother Mark Maguire scored the TD, blocked a PAT and blocked a late field goal and Phillips hung on to beat Cushing 7-6. ... Chris Conroy and Scott Hathaway scored but Pinkerton fell to Trinity 17-14. ... Running back Mike Smith (not to be confused with his teammate wide receiver Mike Smith) scored for Whittier in a 20-8 setback to Greater Lowell.

Through the years: Holmes, Donovan rescue Salem

This week in 1981, Salem improved to 6-0 in dramatic fashion. Keene went ahead on a 22-yard field goal with 1:10 left. But Salem marched 60 yards and won it with less than 30 seconds remaining when Tom Holmes found Pat Donovan for a 9-yard TD pass. Donovan also fired a TD pass on a halfback option to Holmes’ brother. Steve.

Also in 1981, Jim Gregg (109 yards) and Sean Bradley (107 yards) carried Methuen past Lowell 26-6. ... Mike Barrett scored with 1:34 left and North Andover had a goal-line stand on the 1-yard-line on the game’s final play to win a thriller over Triton 21-17.

This week in 1984, Kevin Brothers threw two TD passes and picked off two passes as Salem dumped Manchester Central 33-7. ... Dave Ramirez’s touchdown was the difference as Methuen topped Chelmsford, 8-2.

In 1982, Julio Perez rushed for 92 yards and both touchdowns, giving Haverhill a 14-0 win over Lawrence. ... Joe Keefe was 8 of 17 for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns to E.J. Perry (4 catches, 117 yards, interception) as Andover beat Greater Lawrence 21-8.

In 1980, Jim Davis ran for 198 yards and two scores and Pinkerton downed Milford 28-0.

In 1962, Mike Poirier scored twice as Central beat St. Sebastian for its first win of the year. ... Brian Thacker scored on a 32-yard run in the final minute and Pinkerton beat Exeter 12-8. ... Haverhill pulled out a thrilling 14-8 win over Waltham on an 8-yard pass from Jim Taft to Bill Zarbolias with 49 seconds left.

In 1957, independent Andover was welcomed to the Northeast Conference. ... A flu epidemic wreaked havoc with the area schedule for a couple weeks. ... Larry McCarthy (3 TDs) led Central Catholic over Rindge Tech while Dick Bergeron’s two TDs lifted Woodbury to its fifth straight win.
