Under the Lights: Methuen's Lacroix starring at WPI

Secretary of defense

WPI sophomore safety Eric Lacroix of Methuen recently was named co-Defensive Player of the Week by the Liberty League and ECAC Northwest. In a win over RPI, Lacroix, despite playing with a broken thumb, had eight tackles and forced a fumble, and had a 33-yard interception return. Through six games he had a team-high 44 tackles with two interceptions.

all-time great

Heading into Friday’s game at West, Pinkerton senior Manny Latimore was 14th in the modern era in rushing (3.592 yards) and eighth in touchdowns (58). With 1,119 yards and 15 TDs this season and potentially six more games to play, he could beat Jerickson Fedrick of Salem’s rushing record (4,568) and threaten Bruce Vieira of Pelham’s TD mark (81).

bowling for dollars

Brandon Wesley, a four-year starting quarterback at Bucknell, hopes to go bowling. Not just with the football team. He helped Plano East High in Texas to the state bowling title and has a 300 game on his resume.

The SNHU two

Southern New Hampshire women’s soccer boasts two area standouts. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Cappello, the former Eagle-Tribune MVP from Andover, is a second-year starter. She has three goals and an assist in 12 games. Freshman starting midfielder Alexa Poulin from Central has two goals and two assists.

North Pole drubbing

We made a big deal out of Whittier football playing Bellingham this fall. But in the Alaska playoffs, Ketchikan played at North Pole, 852 miles away! The hosts won 55-6. That must have been one looooooong trip home.
