Late and great

It took until the final 10 minutes of the game, but No. 2 Windham took control with a goal each from Rachel Vafides and Sarah Chau as the Jaguars beat No. 15 Milford 2-0 in the New Hampshire Division 2 first round.

Brianna Angelini made seven saves and Clairee Putnam led a stellar defensive effort for Windham, which advances to host No. 7 Hanover on Saturday at 2 p.m.

One is enough

Londonderry’s girls soccer team dominated from start to finish in the first round of the Division 1 tournament but had to settle for a 1-0 victory over Dover. Kassie Moore scored for the Lancers (9-6-2), who now must face No. 1-seed Exeter, at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Marathon loss

North Reading had a good tuneup for the upcoming state volleyball tournament, losing a five-game match to Peabody, dropping the final game 16-14. Jessica Lezon had an impressive six blocks in the loss for the Hornets (11-9).

Closing strong

North Andover’s volleyball team, the co-MVC champion, closed out its most successful regular season ever with a sweep of Masconomet to improve to 19-1. Catherine Flaherty led the Knights up front with 11 kills.
