The Central Catholic linebacker was at his best in the Raiders’ 35-0 North semifinal thrashing of Acton-Boxboro. He made two interceptions. One set up Central’s second touchdown and the other was in the end zone to squash A-B’s best drive of the night. He also made 10 tackles as the Raiders surrendered just two first downs through three quarters, when their starters left the game.
With Central scuffling early, Demers delivered the much-needed spark. He returned a punt 62 yards for the Raiders’ first touchdowns of the day. He was far from done after that. He recorded an interception that set up a touchdown, recovered a fumble, made six tackles, caught three passes for 48 yards and consistently changed field position with key kickoff and punt returns.
The senior quarterback had a huge first half to boost the Knights past Lynn English and help soften the blow of last week’s last-minute setback. Walsh threw for all of his 257 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, providing a 28-13 lead. He helped seal the win in the third quarter with an 8-yard TD run. He also added 64 yards rushing.
