Spinners, Fisher Cats lose

Kevin Mager went 4 for 5 and knocked in two runs but the Lowell Spinners lost 8-5 in 11 innings to Tri-City after being up 5-0 early.

Simon Mercedes started for the Spinners throwing 5.0 scoreless innings, the third Spinners starter to do so this season.

Mercedes allowed just three hits, striking out two while walking two.

Chris Carpenter, in his second rehab appearance for the team, allowed one hit in 2.0 scoreless innings.

The two teams meet again tonight at LeLacheur Park when Jamie Callahan makes his New York-Penn League debut.

Fisher Cats

A.J. Jimenez went 4 for 5 and drove in two runs, but Altoona completed a three-game sweep of New Hampshire with a 7-4 win last night.

The road trip continues with a 7:05 p.m. start in Harrisburg tonight. The Fisher Cats (33-37) are expected to start Marcus Stroman (3-1, 4.15) against RHP Rob Gilliam (2-2, 4.94).
