Roundup: Wells outduels Surette in classic matchup

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — Former Whittier teammates Andrew Wells and Shane Surette hooked up in a brilliant pitchers duel.

In the end, Wells and Methuen won a 2-1 Legion thriller over Haverhill.

Wells, who is coming off an All-Scholastic season for the Wildcats, fired a complete-game two-hitter with seven strikeouts. Surette (3-hitter, 10 Ks) matched him pitch for pitch.

Post 122 struck early as Brady Abraham tripled in Cam Cyr in the first. Gary Carbonneau singled in the second, moved to second on a Connor Norton sacrifice and later scored on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Haverhill made it interesting as Nick Comei singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. But Wells escaped further damage.
