MANCHESTER, N.H. - Marcus Walden tossed eight dazzling innings to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (48-46) to their seventh straight victory, a dominating 5-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (46-48) last night.
Walden was making his first start since recording three outs in a perfect inning at the Eastern League All-Star game last week. He allowed just the one run on five hits, striking out six while issuing one walk. He improved his season record to 4-1 against Portland in five starts, yielding a 1.58 ERA during those outings. In the second, the first two men reached against starter Bobby Lanigan, before Andy Burns doubled home a run for a 1-0 lead. Gabe Jacobo made it 2-0 with a groundout before Brian Van Kirk singled home Burns for a 3-0 advantage. After Van Kirk struck out, Adam Loewen launched his 12th homer of the season to right, pushing the lead to its biggest margin at 5-0.
