The North Andover Nationals topped Lawrence East 16-2 in District 14 Little League pool play.
Matt Remley and Alex Bodnar combined for the win. The Nationals were led offensively by Jack Morin, Brian Barker-Morrill, Aidan Heim and Remley. Heim and Remley homered with Heim’s a titanic two-run shot.
Third baseman Jack Ciesielski shined in the field.
Austin Hart rapped a three-run triple in the second, sparking North Andover American to a 12-2 win over North Andover National in the first game of the 10-year-old district finals.
Kyle Webster added a solo home run for American, while Trevor Crosby earned the win, working five innings and retiring the final 11 batters he faced.
Penney, Post 4 roll
Kevin Regan ripped an RBI triple and an RBI double and scored twice for Haverhill Legion in a 5-1 win over North Andover. Evan Penney was his co-star, hurling 6.2 innings of two-hit ball for his fourth win. Joe Carter got the last out on a strikeout.
Post 4 improved to 7-1 and hosts Peabody Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Evan Glew’s seventh-inning RBI single, and a single by Steve Arnold were the only hits for North Andover, which dropped to 2-9. North Andover is at Swampscott Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Coming on in relief after an injury to Scott Leslie, Andrew Selima struck out five of the seven batters he faced, including the final three of the game to lead Andover Legion to a 6-3 win over Lynn.
Jack Cox led the Post 8 offense, going 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Max Novick added two hits and scored twice and Scott Allan doubled, tripled and drove home two runs. Leslie struck out five before leaving the game with elbow soreness.
Grant top qualifier
The Mass. State Public Links qualifier was yesterday at Bradford Country Club. There were 11 qualifiers with Bradford’s Jimmy Grant taking medalist honors with a 2 over 72. The other two local qualifiers also were from Bradford. Ryan Paris fired a 73 and Ernie Lupi a 79. The finals are August 5-6 at Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich.
Fabrizio, Bickford star
New Hampshire swept Maine 12-1 and 12-5 in the 6th annual High School Senior All-Star softball games.
Pinkerton’s Natalie Fabrizio got the win in Game 1 backed by Amanda Bickford of Salem’s three hits. Spaulding’s Sami West was the winner in the nightcap.
Salem’s Brittany Wallace and Londonderry’s Sam Harris also played for New Hampshire, whose coaching staff included David Hedge of Windham.
