PORTLAND, Maine — John Anderson hurled five shutout innings to lead the Fisher Cats to a 2-0 Game 2 victory and a split of their doubleheader with Portland last night.
Anderson recorded a season-high eight strikeouts to help the Fisher Cats snap a three-game slide.
After dropping the opener yesterday, 5-2, the Fisher Cats came back strong in the nightcap thanks to Anderson and some Sea Dogs errors.
The lefty tossed five scoreless with a season-high eight strikeouts. He needed just 63 pitches, and allowed just one hit and one walk.
In the opener, Portland’s Shannon Wilkerson ripped a two-run single to left field for a 2-1 lead in the third.
Force not with Spinners
LOWELL — It was Star Wars Night at LeLacheur Park and the force had to be with someone, as both the Lowell Spinners and Mahoning Valley Scrappers entered the game with lengthy losing streaks.
It was the Scrappers who snapped their eight-game losing streak with an 9-3 win in front of 5,226 fans.
The loss was the Spinners’ fifth straight and eighth in their last nine games.
Lowell will play in the Futures at Fenway game today at 3:30 p.m. in Boston.
